Community Liaison Group meets to discuss Lake Illawarra Entrance Works Project

26 May 2006

Mr Doug Prosser, Chairman of the Lake Illawarra Authority, today advised that the first meeting of the Community Liaison Group concerning the Lake Illawarra entrance works project was held on 25 May 2006.

Under the conditions of approval for the project, the group was required to hold its first meeting prior to construction works commencing. With construction imminent it was timely to hold the meeting. The first meeting included a site inspection of the work site and an overview of the project, Mr Prosser said.

The group consists of representatives from the Lake Illawarra Authority, Wollongong and Shellharbour City councils, the contractor, an independent environmental manager, members of local businesses and organisations, and the community. In all there are 20 representatives. Group meetings are to be held monthly.

The purpose of the group is as a channel of two-way information. It will receive reports on construction activities and environmental performance for the duration of the project, and disseminate information to the community on work progress.

This information flow will include the provision of newsletters, progress reports, photographs and media announcements as required. The group will also facilitate the communication of issues about the construction works between the community and the LIA and the contractor.

Information about the project, including contact details of the group members, can be viewed at the Lake Illawarra Authority website:
