Compliance is measured according to The National Health and Medical Research Council�s Australian Guidelines for Recreational Use of Water (NHMRC 1990). These guidelines are used by Sydney Waters Beachwatch Program and the EPA Beachwatch Partnership Program.
According to the NHMRC guidelines, estuarine waters are considered unsuitable for swimming if, for five samples taken at regular intervals over a period not exceeding one month: - the median faecal coliform density exceeds 150 cfu/100 mL (COLUMN FC MEDIAN); or - the second-highest faecal coliform density is equal to or greater than 600 cfu/mL (COLUMN FC 2ND HIGHEST); or - the geometric mean enterococci density exceeds 33 cfu/100 mL (COLUMN ENT GEOMEAN).
Note: Results only valid where 5 samples are used to calculate compliance for the month. Therefore, 5 values are required to be listed below the actual pass/fail cell in the FC or Ent column.
Note: 0 cannot be entered into the Enterococci, 0.1 must be used instead.
